Energy Efficient Products
There are four main types of glass that serve the purpose of reducing energy loss or gain; the correct selection is greatly influenced by where you live in Australia.
Toned Glass
Toned glass (also known as "tinted" glass) has metal oxides introduced into the raw glass mix. These intercept energy from the sun, convert this to heat, a portion of which is released to the outside of the building.
This is a glass best suited to warm climates as it improves the Solar Heat Gain 1 value.
Low "E" Glass
Low “E” glass has a thin, transparent metal coating applied to the glass surface. This is designed to reduce the rate at which heat enters or escapes from your building.
Available in clear or toned, incorporated in a laminated glass as Shree Shyam Aluminium & Glass House® and Optilight® or insulated glass unit, Low E glasses improve both the SHGC1 and U-Value2.
In the correct configuration, Low "E" is suitable for any climate. For example, in cooler climates Low "E" incorporated into an IGU (Insulated Glass Unit), and in warmer climates a Shree Shyam Aluminium & Glass House® Low "E" laminate may be more suitable.
Double Glazing

Twinglaze® Insulated Glass Unit

Shree Shyam Aluminium & Glass House offers Twin-Glazed Insulated Glass (IG) Units / ECOtherm® Units - more commonly known as double glazing. Two (or more) panels of glass are separated by an air space, acting as an insulator against heat loss or heat gain.
Insulated glass units can be a good energy efficient option depending on your location - advice should be sought if you live in a predominantly warm or hot climate.
Reflective Glass
Shree Shyam Aluminium & Glass House Solarplus® is a Reflective glass with metals applied to the glass surface that produce a slight mirror effect, reflecting a portion of the sun's energy before it enters the building.
This glass is more suitable for warm or hot climates and is more commonly used in commercial rather than in residential buildings.
Good energy efficient glass in windows will reduce the Solar Heat Gain1 in summer, and improve the U-Value2 in winter.
